Confessions of a Food Nazi, who inspired this blog, made the observation on the Moroccan Soup Bar:
"You can do most things there except book a table for 2, eat meat or imbibe in liquor. I am not entirely sure you could fill up as easily at Bar Lourinha, Cafe Zum Zum or Mecca Bah for twice the price. Sure there will always be cheap items on the menu but rarely are they enough to satisfy. Of course, in such establishments we are just talking about food, when adding a bar tab to the bill – cheap is long gone."
The rule is that here th emeal must be under $20 in total per person.

Ed, we touched on The Age food guides being out of touch a while back. "Cheap Eats" is another example of how I think the series has declined. I gave up on Cheap Eats publication more than a decade ago for the exact reasons AOF is quoting.
Anyway, I am based around the inner west...here are some of my favorites;
- Cafe Lalibela, Abol or Awash (all African in Footscray). Lovely African meal and a beer for < $15. Even interesting meals for Vego's.
- Hien Vuong at 37 Leeds St Footscray. Supreme stock Pho and Viet Salads...best in the area. Meal and a fancy drink < $10.
- Touks's in Seddon. Homemade baked beans (with pork belly and other meats) as a side dish to their eggs florentine. The chef really knows how to poach an egg. < $20 with a coffee.
Some great "old man" pubs lurking in the back streets too offering a meal and a pot for around $10.
I think the Lebanese restaurant that AOF was mentioning near the Mediterranean supermarket Brunswick is "Tiba's" at 504 Sydney Rd. I second the recommendation.
Andrew,
All good places by the sounds of it. I need to visit the African ones myself. the key is that we all try and post regularly. I've got a load of Pho places myself. Who knows we could spin-off our own guide. As the domain was available for $10 I decided to get that too.
