Still searching for the best Pho

photo.jpg

The seductive thing is the doorway and a sign. There is no other indication of what lies at the top of the stairs in the Thy Thy (142 Victoria St, Richmond +61 3 9429 1104) Vietnamese restaurant.

Perhaps restaurant is too strong a word. This isn't a place I'd come to eat at night and apparently nor should you. But do drop in for an aromatic and filling bowl of sub $10 Pho and to enjoy Thy Thy's retro chequerboard wall.

I've already documented my search for the best Pho in Melbourne and discovering it in Hanoi. The truth is it is difficult to find a bad Pho on Victoria St but easy to find food laced with MSG.

This double posted on my personal blog Tomato.

I just stumbled on your blog while in search of a cheap eat in Melbourne. I felt compelled to help you out in your search for the Best Pho in Melbourne.

Of all the phos I've tried, this is the most authentically Vietnamese I've found (and I've had the real stuff on the streets of Vietnam).

The place is called 'Saigon Pho', 73A Nicholson St, Footscray, next to Little Saigon Market. Ph: 9689 8806. It's just a humble pho shop -- they don't sell much else -- and it's absolutely delicious, every time. The people who run it are lovely, too. Oh, and they make delicious three-colour drinks, perfect post-pho.

Enjoy!
